SOUTH BANK (M)ART STORE ONLY

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to stock up on your favourite products from Australia’s leading and emerging designers and craftspeople at these one-off SALE prices!

The operation of the South Bank (m)art store has been made possible due to the wonderful support of South Bank Corporation over the past three years. The artisan team would like to thank South Bank Corporation for their valuable contribution to the craft and design sector through their sponsorship of the retail space. The South Bank (m)art store has provided a strong commercial platform for over 200 craftspeople, designers and artists to sell their products to the public and has provided the community with an additional destination for purchasing the diverse collection of quality Australian design and craftsmanship.

While we mark the closure of the South Bank (m)art store and the valuable contribution this has provided our community and the craft and design sectors, the artisan team are looking forward to launching new opportunities and ventures to support and build the craft and design sectors in 2013 and beyond.

Artisan’s retail activity will continue to offer an exquisitely crafted and intelligently designed collection of Australian product through our flagship store at Fortitude Valley and our 24/7 Online Store.

Sustainability is the focus on day four of the Cherish showcase. Bio-bin by Alison Schutt (Haasch) and Bureau^Proberts is an effective waste solution that also happens to be made from recycled waste paper. A great addition to any office, Bio-bin was selected by Jason Bird.

"I love composite materials. A great use of recycled materials that looks good and has enormous future potential."
 - Jason Bird, designer, Luxxbox

South Bank Visitor Centre souveniers

We are excited to launch a special project in partnership with South Bank Corporation for the design of a collection of souvenirs for the South Bank Visitor Centre.

The first range of products is now available in South Bank’s Visitor Centre and includes: striking black and white mens and womens tees and caps, kids tees and bucket hats, soft toys, eco jute tote and laser-engraved metal keyrings.

This project involved intensive site-specific research and close collaboration with South Bank and the manufacturing sector. All pieces in the collection make for great, affordable gifts which are connected to the South Bank precinct through design and story.

Congratulations to designers KT Doyle, Dan Cox, Jess Dabro, and Roz Fenson for their great work on this project.

The Visitor Centre is open daily from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day) and is located on the ground floor of South Bank House, on the corner of Ernest Street and Stanley Street Plaza, South Bank. Feel free to visit in person, call on (07) 3867 2051 or email at visitorcentre@south-bank.net.au.

Now in store: By Joost

“I want to bring our food back to the beginning. The pot acts as reminder that this food has been harvested, planted and grown” – Joost Bakker

Our retail store has recently received a delivery of home wares from By Joost.
By Joost is the brainchild of Rustenburg born, Melbourne based, Joost Bakker. Joost’s passion for sustainability and design inspired his latest collection of pottery home wares, which includes cups, plates, and bowls.

Each bespoke piece is handmade and unique, and is made from raw, natural elements found in Australian soils. The materials naturally weather and age, and can be eventually returned to the earth without contributing to landfill.
Joost’s design career began on his family’s flower farm when he started creating café floral arrangements. Incorporating objects found on the farm, Joost developed a unique aesthetic that was soon highly sought after within the Melbourne hospitality scene. Since then, his career in design has advanced quickly.
Minimising the ecological impact of humans has long been a mission of Joost’s. His Greenhouse project, which has seen temporary and permanent sustainable restaurants set up around Australia, is perhaps his most well known venture to date.

Sustainable and beautiful? We like very much! You can purchase By Joost home wares from our Fortitude Valley design store, or our online store. Visit Joost's website here.

(m)art design store shopping morning overview!

Marc Harrison Bauple Set
Yesterday's shopping event at the Fortitude Valley (m)art design store was a great success, with lots of wonderful and innovative Christmas gifts being purchased at 20% off the standard price.

The morning was a wonderful gathering of keen shoppers with an eye on the unique Christmas gift raffle off of Marc Harrison’s Bauple bowl set (pictured above). The set was won by Karen Hurford from Mackay who is a (m)art design store customer who pops in to do some select shopping when she travels to Brisbane. Karen was over the moon to win the new bauple set and was literally jumping for joy at her luck!

Everyone in attendance enjoyed a light breakfast with the added excitement of access to the (m)art store room where lots of treasures were selected from also. Over all it was a fabulous morning shared by our loyal customers who I would like to thank for getting out of bed early to support our designers and share some wonderful conversation over breakfast and browsing. Keep an eye out in 2011 for more special retail events in the (m)art design stores.
