Employment opportunity at artisan

We are currently on the hunt for an Exhibitions & Public Programs Coordinator to join our talented team! If you think you might be the one we're looking for, please read the position description and selection criteria below and send us your application by 8th February.

POSITION TITLE: EXHIBITIONS & PUBLIC PROGRAMS CO-ORDINATOR
LOCATION: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane
HOURS: Full Time
CONTRACT: Until 31 December 2013 (extensions beyond this date are subject to ongoing organisational funding)

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To support the Curator/Exhibitions Manager by managing logistical and administrative processes and procedures for exhibitions and public programs.

MAJOR DUTIES 
> Co-ordinate and manage logistical aspects of the exhibition program, including:
  • Contracts
  • Correspondence
  • Freight
  • SchedulesLoans
> Manage the installation of all artisan exhibitions including:
  • Booking contract staff
  • Preparing installation schedules
  • Sourcing display furniture
  • Arranging the production of exhibition design materials including
  • signage
  • Condition reports
> Co-ordinate operations maintenance for the gallery including ordering supplies, liaising with service providers/contractors, maintaining assets.

> Work with marketing and graphic design staff to produce marketing collateral including advertising, invitations and catalogues.

> Track expenditure under the direction of the Curator/Exhibitions Manager.

> Support the delivery of public programs and audience engagement activities, including:
  • Booking speakers, accommodation and travel
  • Setting up equipment for public programs
  • Liaising with Marketing staff to promote programs
  • Tracking visitor numbers
  • Presenting floor talks and guided tours as required
  • Providing administrative support to deliver audience engagement initiatives
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A flexible working environment is highly valued within the organisation. Occasional evening, early morning or weekend work may be required in this position.
Manual labor and the use of tools is required of this position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Curator & Exhibitions Manager. Regular consultation with other members of the artisan team will be required, including the CEO, Administrator, and Retail staff.

LIAISON AND COMMUNICATION
This position will provide gallery support and may liaise on behalf of artisan with artists, curators, sponsors, representatives of government departments and funding bodies, academics, researchers, national and international institutions, writers, speakers and members of the public.

Arts-based knowledge
You have obtained an under-graduate education within an arts-based discipline and have a keen interest in current trends and movements within the visual arts and craft sector.

Achieves results
You possess organisational skills including the ability to manage various tasks and meet deadlines. You are diligent, efficient and effective in your processes and procedures and are proactive in learning new skills to attain this.

Supports productive working relationships
You actively work to develop productive and respectful relationships. You are self driven with an ability to work independently. You believe in quality and can see things from a variety of perspectives.

Displays initiative and personal drive
You commit energy and drive to see that work tasks and objectives are achieved.

Communicates with influence
You have the ability to communicate clearly and precisely in a logical manner respondent to a variety of contexts. Your verbal and non-verbal communication is professional and appropriate.

Quench: The thirst for new design

Brisbane's Quench collective is giving emerging Queensland designers the opportunity to exhibit their work at artisan and in the USA.

The thirst for new design, supported by Arts Queensland, will award one talented designer with a place in an international design fair to be held in the USA in June 2013.

The brief
To enter, entrants are simply asked to create an interpretation of what the work 'Quench' means to them. Delivering a visual representation by way of graphic design, film, animation, or multimedia, the result can be as literal or as abstract as the entrant chooses.

The prizes
Shortlisted designers will be featured in artisan's Ivory Street window in January 2013. From this group, five designers will go on to a second stage of selection, involving a short interview and a pitch as to why their work should be included in the Quench exhibition in the USA.

The successful entrant's work will  will receive fully paid flights and accommodation for the duration of the international design fair, and have their work showcased in an international exhibition.

Entries will close on 6 January 2013, with shortlisted designers notified on January 11.

Early Career Residencies up to $30,000

The Early Career Residencies program provides an opportunity for artists, writers, curators, editors, music and theatrical producers in all Australia Council supported art forms, to develop and implement creative projects and developments, whilst being supported in a host organisation. 

This program is designed to encourage connections and collaborations between early career practitioners and established organisations. Hosts can be venues, festivals, arts and non-arts organisations.

Residencies can be initiated and applied for by the host or the early career practitioner. An amount of up to $30,000 is available for a residency of up to six months. Applications close 29 January 2013.

JUMP Mentoring - Applications now open!

JUMP aims to make an impact on the early stages of a recipient’s career, help them gain networks, be inspired and exchange ideas, whilst working on an applied mentorship and creative project with a mentor who helps them jump to the next level.

JUMP is open to creative practitioners, producers, editors and curators who are in the first five years of their professional practice; in any of the Australia Council supported art forms.
