Radical Jewellery Makeover on 612ABC Brisbane

Luise Straker from 612ABC Brisbane visited the jewellery studios over at the Qld College of Art to see the jewellers in action, transforming the jewellery donations into exciting new pieces.
Check out Luise's article over here.

Some of the artisan staff have donated jewellery and are excited to see some of their donations in the finished pieces.

Come and see the finished pieces for yourself at the Radical Jewellery Makeover opening tonight in the UAP sponsored Crucible gallery space here at artisan from 6:00pm.

The exhibition continues until the 28th of August.

RADICAL JEWELLERY MAKEOVER

Recycle your Unwanted Jewellery!

artisan
is inviting you to participate in the Radical Jewellery Makeover (RJM), an exciting international community recycling project.

The idea is to ‘mine’ your home, uncovering gold, silver, and non-precious jewellery of any sort, that you no longer wear or want and then deposit (donate) your ‘lode’.

During a workshop with RJM project directors, Susie Ganch and Christina Miller (from Ethical Metalsmiths, USA), students from Queensland College of Art and participating local jewellers will transform these donations into adventurous, imaginative new pieces of jewellery.

The fabulous refashioned jewels will be exhibited at artisan 30 July – 28 August 2010. All works are for sale (with a special discount offered to jewellery donors).

Proceeds from sales will benefit collaborative student research scholarships dedicated to responsible studio practices at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and United States based Ethical Metalsmiths.

RJM was launched in 2007 by the Ethical Metalsmiths in the USA and the Brisbane RJM is the fifth in the series and the first ever to be held in Australia. Please join in and take this opportunity to refresh your jewellery collection and be part of the global movement encouraging environmentally friendly practices.

Jewellery donations can be made at the following locations:

artisan Level 2, 381 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.

Hours: 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday, Phone: 3215 0800

Contact person: Shannon McCaskill

Queensland College of Art Griffith University,

Jewellery and Small Objects 226 Grey Street, South Bank,

Please phone first: 3735 3153

Or mail your donation to:

Elizabeth Shaw, Convenor Jewellery and Small Objects,

Fine Art, Queensland College of Art Griffith University,

PO Box 3370 South Brisbane 4101.

Donations must be accompanied by a donation form available at each donation drop off location or for download at www.artisan.org.au Remember to keep the bottom portion for your records. Donations are tax deductible if you have had your jewellery officially appraised.

LAST DAY TO DONATE IS WEDNESDAY 21ST JULY 2010
